PASCO

“PASCO” is a 10-minute, human interest short-form film that explores the profound legacy of Pasco L. Schiavo, a revered attorney, educator, author, real estate investor, and philanthropist from Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Through immersive storytelling and intimate interviews, this thoughtfully crafted film brings to life the lasting impact of Schiavo’s generosity. The Luzerne Foundation’s 4th Annual Community Champion Award Dinner brought our community together for an inspiring evening at the Westmoreland Club—raising funds to support the nonprofits doing vital work across our region.Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we awarded a record $175,000 in grants, including $10,000 awards to five standout organizations and $5,000 grants to 25 additional nonprofits. Congratulations to the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) Class of 2026! 🎉We were proud to celebrate this exceptional group of students at our 13th Annual YAC Awards Banquet on April 26. Throughout the year, they demonstrated leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact in our community.After hosting a nonprofit forum with 20 local organizations, evaluating grant applications, and engaging in thoughtful deliberations, YAC awarded $26,000 to six impactful nonprofits:• Collaborative Autism Movement – Sensory Aid Bags for the Neurodiverse• ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund – Family Support Program• SPCA of Luzerne County – The Kibble Connection• Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania – Give Hope Street Outreach• Gather Community Space – Cooking Up Confidence: A Youth Culinary Life Skills Program• Willow Foundation's Heartwood CenterThrough The Luzerne Foundation’s YAC program, local high school students gain hands-on experience in philanthropy and community development.
